PS5 controller test

Connect your DualSense and press a button to check sticks, drift, stick range, buttons, triggers and rumble. This standard test works with any controller in any modern browser. In desktop Chrome or Edge you can also try the experimental deep mode, which attempts to read gyro, touchpad, battery and report rate and to drive the lightbar and adaptive triggers.

Controller bench

No controller yet

Turn your phone sideways for the full bench.

Press any button on your controller — browsers only show a pad after its first press.

Stick check

Three steps: rest, circles, snap-back. Start with the controller lying on a table.

Vibration

Hold the controller and run each test. One motor at a time makes a dead or rattling motor easy to spot.

Report rate

Keep moving a stick in circles while it measures. The experimental deep mode counts every report; the Gamepad API shows what the browser sees.

Button check

Press every button once to tick it off. Then run the chatter test: press each button slowly, about 20 times.

Deep mode (WebHID)

You don't need this for the checks above: the standard test works with any controller. Deep mode is an optional extra.

Verdict

Connect a controller and run a check — the verdict shows up here.

Checklist for this controller

  • Run the drift test with the pad lying flat.
  • Roll each stick around the edge; a DualSense should trace a near-round shape.
  • Press every button and pull both triggers all the way.
  • Test the heavy and light motor one at a time.
  • Optional, experimental: turn on deep mode, pick "DualSense Wireless Controller" and look at the gyro, touchpad and adaptive triggers.

How to fix it

  1. Deep mode can't open the pad: close Steam (or turn off PlayStation controller support), DS4Windows and DSX, then reconnect.
  2. Drift: update the controller firmware on a PS5, then retest; if it stays, clean or replace the stick module.
  3. One trigger has no resistance in a game: check it in a second game or on the console first, since the experimental deep mode here isn't verified on every DualSense.
  4. If the battery shows an error state, charge over USB with the console or a known-good charger.

Known issues

  • Deep mode's report layouts follow the Linux kernel DualSense driver; they haven't been checked on every model and firmware. Linux kernel, drivers/hid/hid-playstation.c
  • DualSense stick drift has also been the subject of a class action filed by US owners.

FAQ

How do I test my PS5 controller on a PC?

Connect it by USB or Bluetooth, open this page and press a button. The sticks, buttons, triggers and rumble are tested through the standard Gamepad API. Chrome and Edge also offer an experimental deep mode for gyro, touchpad, battery and adaptive triggers.

Can I check DualSense stick drift without a PS5?

Yes. The drift test measures each stick at rest and tells you if the offset is normal, early drift or drift.

Why can't the page open my DualSense?

Another program holds it. Steam, DS4Windows, DSX and HidHide take the controller over; close them and reconnect.

What report rate does a DualSense have?

The Gamepad API stops at about 250 updates a second in Chrome, so that's the most the standard test can show. The experimental deep mode counts the reports the pad sends itself; treat that number as a hint until it's verified for your model.

Why are gyro, touchpad and battery missing?

The standard Gamepad API doesn't carry them: there a DualSense shows 8-bit sticks, buttons and triggers only. The experimental deep mode in desktop Chrome or Edge tries to read them from the pad's own reports.

Why doesn't my DualSense vibrate over Bluetooth?

Through the Gamepad API, Bluetooth rumble depends on your OS and its driver. Plug in a USB cable to rule the wireless link out.

Can the bench recalibrate sticks or update firmware?

No. It reads and judges; it never writes calibration or firmware to the pad.
